Tour of the Arts

Alpine Artisans welcomes you to a self-guided tour of artists' studios, galleries and museums through the Seeley-Swan and Blackfoot Valleys of western Montana. Visits are welcome all year long, by appointment.

About Alpine Artisans

Mission

Our mission is to promote and preserve the arts in the Seeley, Swan, and Blackfoot valleys of Western Montana. We accomplish this through supporting artists, arts education, outreach and information gathering and sharing.

Vision

We, as Alpine Artisans, envision the quality of life of the Seeley, Swan, and Blackfoot Valley communities being significantly enriched and enhanced through the efforts and activities of our membership and staff.

Our Members

Enriching the community through the arts is an ongoing activity of Alpine Artisans. Events open to the community for its enjoyment include exhibits, art fairs, workshops, lectures, concerts and performances. The contributions of our organization to the Seeley-Swan and Blackfoot valleys are possible due to the volunteer efforts of our nearly 150 members.

Administration

A nine-member Board of Directors provides policy and financial oversight for Alpine Artisans.

The board is elected by the membership at an annual meeting held in January at the beginning of the fiscal year. Various committees are appointed as needed throughout the year.  The daily, ongoing administration of Alpine Artisans is provided by our Program Coordinator, Jenny Rohrer and our 2 Valleys Stage Program Director, Carol Evans.

Funding

Alpine Artisans, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Funding comes from a variety of sources such as commissions on art sales, ticket and raffle sales during Alpine Artisans' events, grants, donations, business supporters, and membership dues. The income generated is used to accomplish our mission to promote and preserve the arts in western Montana.

Current AAI Programs:

  • Artmobile -  in spring, goes to all schools
  • Art Display in the Seeley Swan Medical Center - ongoing
  • Art Programs in the schools - various in-school workshops by artists, varies by year.
  • Communications:
  • Cultural Arts Corridor:
    • Crown of the Continent Auction - summer event co-sponsored with SEC  
    • Open Book Club - 6-10 authors per year reading at the Grizzly Claw
    • Tour of the Arts - 1-2 special weekends per year, open year round, 8-12 studios
    • Crown of the Continent Community Cinema - shown in Condon & Seeley Lake
    • Artist to Artist Potlucks at studios - various
    • Occasional Tours to galleries and cultural centers of interest
  • Scholarship Program:
    • Senior Scholarship ($500- $1,000)
    • Summer Youth Grants (1-3 grants for summer arts programs, @ $150-500)
    • 5th Grade Trip to Missoula Art Museum
    • Art Educator Grant and Starving Artist Grants
    • Scholarship Endowment Fund (set up at 1st Valley Bank)
  • Show and Tell Potluck in September
  • Snow Sculpture Judging at Seeley Lake Winterfest with prizes given by AAI
